Sheffield also boasts loads of green spaces, from the Botanical Gardens to the award-winning Winter Garden. And when some proper countryside is in order, you’re just a quick train ride away from the Peak District. All in all, it’s a winning mix that will leave you wanting more. Here’s how to get the most from your coach trip to Sheffield.

Sheffield: top 3 things to do

1. Visit the Kelham Island Museum

Relive the Industrial Revolution at the Kelham Island Museum, and find out why Sheffield is known as the Steel City. The collections here feature everything from classic cars to mighty steam engines. And you can get hands-on in the interactive galleries. Getting here is easy – you can walk from the city centre in about 15 minutes.

2. Catch a show

Theatre fans are spoilt for choice in Sheffield, thanks to a triple whammy of venues. The Crucible Theatre, the Lyceum Theatre and the Studio Theatre put on the full range of shows, musicals and dance performances. Check out the complete timetable of events and plan your Sheffield coach travel around it.

3. Discover the Butterfly House

Walk alongside butterflies, hang out with meerkats and learn about lemurs at Sheffield’s number one wildlife park. Animal lovers will be in their element, thanks to a bumper timetable of events, talks and shows. The easiest way to get here from the city centre is to take the X5 bus. The journey takes around 45 minutes plus a walk the other end, but it’s worth it.

If you’re planning on making multiple journeys in one day, you could save a few pounds by getting a dayrider ticket.

If you fancy venturing out to the Peak District, you’ll need to jump on the train. The journey from Sheffield station to the popular Peak District villages of Hope and Edale takes around half an hour.

Sheffield: best for nightlife

Take the bus to Sheffield and you’re going to want to stay for the night. Sample local ales like Abbeydale or Thornbridge in a relaxed pub, or enjoy a more creative concoction in a chic cocktail bar. West Street, Ecclesall Road and Division Street are good places to kick things off.

For live music, you can’t beat The Leadmill, in the city centre. It’s the oldest music venue in Sheffield, and has hosted the likes of Coldplay, Muse and local favourites, Arctic Monkeys. You can also catch some of the UK’s best stand-up comedians in action at the  Leadmill Comedy Club.

Sheffield: best for shopping

Shoppers should head straight for Meadowhall. This huge shopping centre on the edge of the city lines up lots of big-name stores, alongside restaurants, bars and a cinema. For more unusual buys, the popular Devonshire quarter is your best bet. The independent shops here sell everything from vintage fashion and handmade jewellery to classic records and comic books. The atmosphere is great, and festivals and market stalls regularly pitch up.
