megabus.com supports 2017 poppy appeal

megabus.com is supporting military personnel past and present this Remembrance Sunday (12 November 2017).

As part of Stagecoach’s activities to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts, megabus.com will be displaying a poppy on mascot Sid’s lapel on its fleet of coaches across Scotland, England and Wales.

A contribution has also been made to the Royal British Legion, enabling all drivers who choose to wear a poppy to do so.

This Sunday, megabus.com will also be providing free coach travel to Somerset Army Cadets. The group of 40 cadets from Glastonbury, Wells, Shepton Mallet, Frome and Midsomer Norton platoons will be travelling to Bath to take part in the Remembrance Day parade, supporting the Royal British Legion, Regular and Reserve armed forces and other cadet organisations. The cadets, aged between 12-18 years, take part in the event every year as part of a calendar of events which are at the heart of the Army Cadets’ ethos.

Major Michelle Hall, Officer Commanding Normandy Company, Somerset Cadet Battalion (The Rifles) ACF, said: “Somerset Army Cadets are delighted with their new megabus.com association, transporting them to and from Bath on Remembrance Day.”

Remembrance Sunday is a day for the nation to remember and honour those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom.

Mark Venables, Managing Director at megabus.com said: “We are proud to be supporting Remembrance Sunday in this way by offering a free service to the Somerset Army Cadets travelling to the Bath event.

“We’re also delighted to be able to place poppies on our mascot Sid’s lapel on each of our vehicles. We hope that by doing this we’re sending a clear message of support to our Armed Forces communities across the country.”

Partner company, South Gloucester Bus and Coach Company will also be offering free transport via two megabus.com coaches to the Bristol remembrance parade for local community groups.

The support for Remembrance Sunday and the Poppy Appeal coincides with the company’s commitment to the Ministry of Defence’s Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Stagecoach Group signed the Covenant in support of the Armed Forces Community in 2015. As a signatory of the Covenant, the company recognises the value serving personnel; regular and reservists, veterans and military families contribute to both the country and businesses across the country.
