For more of a great British grub affair, Polo Bar near Liverpool Street station serves brunch all day – and by that we mean 24 hours. Inside, it’s a spruced-up version of a classic caf, and they’ve got a 24-hour alcohol licence, too. So that’s an all-day brunch with bubbly, then.

Best brunches in Cardiff

The good folks at Cardiff’s Early Bird bakery believe that brunch is the most important part of the day, and they’d be right. We love the green eggs and ham – the green comes courtesy of sautéed spinach – and rate the sourdough toast bar. Slather thick, fruity jam on all the crispy sourdough you can manage for just £3 per person.

Another cracking spot in Cardiff is Brava, where breakfast and brunch are the main event. Head here for eggs Benedict done just right, or American pancakes drizzled with bacon syrup. Food is served until 4PM, then it’s stonebaked pizzas in the evening.

Best brunches in Bristol

For breakfast or brunch in Bristol, it’s got to be The Bristolian. Plum in the heart of Montpelier, AKA the city’s hippest street, this is a favourite with the locals for good reason. Breakfast is served every day until 3PM and there are vegan, veggie, fusion and supersized versions of the classic Bristolian fry-up from about £9.50.

If you’re in the market for something healthier, there are plenty of options for Buddha bowls, acai bowls and smoothie bowls. Beets ‘n Roots Café is brilliant for all of the above, as is Latin-inspired Este Kitchen.

Best brunches in Sheffield

Visiting Sheffield on an empty stomach? Be sure to stop by the ultra-cool Craft and Dough for the bottomless Prosecco brunch available through the Yorkshire Food Guide. There are vegetarian and vegan options as well as staples like Belgian waffles with streaky bacon, and it’s all served up with bubbly until 3PM.

Another absolute must for brunch in Sheffield is Steam Yard, which wins hands down for the most inventive brunch options. Tuck in to chocolate-filled cruffins – that’s a cross between a croissant and a muffin – and delicious fronuts. Then wash it all down with a selection of coffees that includes a cold-brew option.
