Luggage

We may need to check that your luggage complies with the dimensions and weights listed below. Please mark your luggage clearly with your name and destination. We aren't able to provide receipts for any transported luggage.

We don’t mind what your luggage is packed in, we only ask that it weighs no more than 23kg. It can’t be any bigger than a standard ‘large’ suitcase (75cm x 50cm x 32cm) or 2 medium suitcases (70cm x 45cm x 30cm each with a maximum combined weight of 23kg).  If you arrive for your journey with more luggage than as detailed above - you may have items refused

You can also take a piece of small soft hand luggage on board with you (45cm x 35cm x 20cm). It must either fit on your lap, in the overhead space or under the seat in front of you.

Remember that the luggage limit is per ticket so a secondary ticket would double your entitlement, otherwise you may be charged £10 per piece of excess luggage. This fee may vary depending on the route and time of travel. Also excess luggage is only offered in London, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Excess luggage is subject to availability and is not guaranteed, unlike having an additional ticket.

Passengers travelling on megatrain services are able to bring up to two pieces per passenger.

To avoid any risk to health, safety, property or the environment, please avoid carrying the below items:

  • Weapons (Knives, Firearms, Explosives)
  • Frozen food, raw meat products and smelly perishables
  • Animals (except for guide dogs, hearing dogs or helping dogs)
  • Flammable liquids and solids
  • Poisonous, infectious, corrosive and radioactive substances

If in any doubt, please contact our Customer Services team before you travel.

Hand luggage must safely fit on your lap, or under the seat in front of you.

Coaches

Normal adult bicycles are unlikely to meet our luggage requirements and can’t be carried on our coaches.

Folding or small children's bicycles can be carried on our coaches providing they meet our luggage requirements at the owner's risk and will count towards your luggage allowance. They must be securely stowed in a bag or box in the designated luggage area (the hold).

Trains

You can bring your bike on board for free, but we only have space for 2 at a time. It’s a good idea to reserve a spot before you travel.

As they’re very popular, cycle reservations are needed on services to and from London. It's free to reserve a cycle space. Please call the EMR Customer Services team on +44 (0) 3457 125 678 as early as possible to book your space. Or you can do it online using our Cycle Reservation form.

Folding cycles can be carried on any megatrain service as hand luggage, provided they remain folded for the duration of the journey.

Yes, you can bring a buggy, pushchair or stroller with you. It must be folded up and put in the hold whilst you're travelling. These can be carried in addition to your luggage allowance.

A golf bag of clubs can take up a lot of space! As such a golf bag will fill your entitlement of luggage space.

Remember that the luggage limit is per ticket so a secondary ticket would double your entitlement, otherwise you may be charged £10 per piece of excess luggage. This fee may vary depending on the route and time of travel. Also excess luggage is only offered at staffed stops in London VCS, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Excess luggage is subject to availability and is not guaranteed, so best to purchase an additional ticket to avoid disappointment at time of travel.

You can bring your skis/snowboards, as long as they’re in suitable protective packaging. Due to the size and bulk of skis/snowboards they will count as your full luggage allowance. We don’t have any special racks for carrying skis/snowboards, so they’ll be carried in the hold of the coach. You can secure additional luggage allowance in advance with the purchase of another seat.
