Payments, discounts and refunds

It’s super easy to make a booking with us.


• From our journey planner, first select from the drop down list the town or city you wish to travel from and to. Choose a single or return trip and enter your chosen travel dates. If you’re travelling after midnight, please make sure you’ve selected the correct date of travel.
• Next, enter the number of people travelling and let us know if you have any NUS Extra or Scottish Concessionary Travellers*. All customers travelling under the same reservation number must board together.
• Once you click on the ‘Find Tickets’ button, a list of available trips will be shown.
• More information about your trip and the bus stops can be viewed by clicking on the trip/stop links.
• Choose your chosen journey time from the journeys shown and click the ‘add to basket’ button.
• You then have two options. Either carry on through to payment, or you can continue to add more journeys to your basket before paying for your tickets.
• The review the trips in your basket and remove any unwanted trips before checking out.
• Review and agree to the terms and conditions.
• Click pay, and check out using our secure online payment processor, WorldPay. You can hold your seats for up to 20 minutes, but you’ll need to complete your booking within this time.
• Once your payment is taken, we’ll send you an email from WorldPay letting you know your payment has gone through, and you’ll also get a booking confirmation email. Please keep this to hand as you’ll need it for your journey.


*Free concessionary travel with megabus is only available to Scottish National Entitlement Card holders for elderly and disabled persons, and – in the case of companion card holders – their companions. Furthermore, this free travel is restricted to journeys by megabus wholly in Scotland, and Scottish Concessionary Entitlement Cards are not valid outside Scotland.

Please check your booking very carefully before completing your transaction, as we don’t give any refunds for bookings after you’ve paid for them.


You can make changes to your booking by paying an amendment fee anytime at least 24 hours before you’re due to travel. We do not allow amendments less than 24 hours before departure. Changes can be made online or with an authorised megabus agent. The amendment fee at an authorised megabus agent may be different to the amendment fee charged online.
If your new journey is more expensive than the original one, you’ll also need to pay the difference between the two fares.

Unfortunately we cannot give you a refund or credit if the new journey is less expensive than the original one.

For megabus journeys which are only within the UK, one child aged 3 or under who isn’t occupying a seat can travel for free with one fare-paying adult. Additional infants will require child ticket purchase. Children and young people aged between 4 and 14 can receive a 10% discount on standard ticket price for most megabus journeys. The ticket is only valid for passengers in that age bracket at the time of travelling. 

For megatrain journeys, a maximum of two children under 5 years of age may travel for free with each fare-paying adult.

Yes we offer a 10% discount on most standard tickets for children aged between 4 and 14. The discount is only applicable to passengers in that age bracket at time of travel. Proof of age may be requested and required for travel. Please be aware that children and young people must be accompanied by an adult – further details in our FAQ ‘Can children and young people travel unaccompanied on your coaches and trains’.

For megatrain journeys, a maximum of two children under 5 years of age may travel for free with each fare-paying adult. We don't offer child fares on train tickets.

Young Scot Card holders wishing to buy discounted travel must buy tickets on coach/bus or on citylink.co.uk.

You can book using the website, in one of our ticket offices - or in a Citylink office. You’ll be charged a booking fee for this. You may also choose not to pre-book a seat and to simply turn up on the day of travel. However, in this instance, you’ll only be able to travel if there’s a seat available. You don’t need to pay the booking fee in this scenario, but you’re not guaranteed a seat. With all forms of booking, you’ll need to show your Entitlement Card at the time of booking and also to megabus representatives on the day of travel. When travelling with a companion you must have a Companion Entitlement Card, which is identified by the +1 symbol on the card. We’d recommend that you book in advance to avoid disappointment, as megabus is only able to guarantee travel to passengers who have a valid reservation number for their journey.

If you're using Google Chrome and have Google Pay set up on your Android device, you'll be offered the option to pay using Google Pay at the checkout stage.

You can download Google Pay from the Play Store. Your mobile device must be running KitKat 4.4 or higher and your card issuer must support Google Pay  You'll also need a google account.

We'll never receive details of your card when paying using Google Pay.

Yes, you can store up to 5 payment cards in your account.

When you use a new card, you can save it to your account when you’re on the payment screen by checking the box.

 

When you’re on the payment screen, choose the ‘Remove’ option displayed next to each saved card. Once you select ‘Remove’ you’ll see a message that gives you the option to ‘Remove’ or ‘Cancel’. Choose ‘Remove’ to remove the card, or choose ‘Cancel’ to keep your payment card saved.

Sorry, you can’t edit your card details yet. But this feature is coming soon.

When you add a new payment card, you can set it as your Primary card by checking the box that says, ‘Set as primary payment card’.

The next time you choose to pay with a payment card, you’ll see this card with the word ‘Primary’ displayed on the top left of the card details.

Please check your email address for the megabus reservation email. If you’ve received this, your transaction was successful. If you don’t receive this within an hour or so after you’ve booked, please email us at [email protected].

We sometimes run special promotions on our services. These promotions carry a discount code that you can use online when you’re making a booking. 

If you’ve got a Tesco Clubcard Voucher, you’ll see a prompt after you’ve chosen to make payment for your trip. Please enter your Tesco Clubcard Voucher code(s) as instructed on screen. Your discount will automatically be applied to your basket and payment will go through as normal.


The booking fee is exempt from discount vouchers and will be charged after the discount has been applied. No change or credit will be given if the value of the Tesco Clubcard Voucher is greater than the cost of the fare.

A TOTUM card holder is entitled to an additional discount on the standard ticket price on certain megabus journeys, not including the booking fee. The discount is only applicable to seats occupied by those passengers carrying a valid TOTUM card at the time of travelling. All passengers travelling on a seat booked with the TOTUM discount will be asked to show their TOTUM card/app membership to megabus and/or any of their affiliates.

Young Scot Card holders wishing to buy discounted travel for travel wholly within Scotland must buy tickets on coach/bus or on citylink.co.uk

The NUS Apprentice Extra cardholder will be entitled to the same discounts as a TOTUM card holder/app member, on certain megabus journeys. Your NUS Apprentice Extra card must be valid at the time of travel.


If you’re travelling or intend to travel with a megabus ticket purchased with this discount, you must carry your card with you and show it to a megabus driver or official if asked to do so - otherwise your ticket will not be valid.

TOTUM and Stagecoach employees/Privilege passholders can receive 10% discount, on most megabus and Scottish Citylink journeys, terms and conditions apply

Journeys run by our partner operators or special events shown below, but not limited to - are excluded from the discount scheme.

• connecting Stagecoach UK local bus and tram services
• connecting Transdev local bus services via Leeds
• special services to and from Silverstone and other events.
• through tickets between megabus services and rail/tram services

All customers travelling with a discount will be asked to show their TOTUM membership or staff pass to megabus and/or any of their affiliates.

Unfortunately, English and Welsh National Concession passes, Railcards, and Rail Rover tickets aren’t valid on megabus services. Free concessionary travel with megabus is only available to Scottish National Entitlement Card holders (elderly and disabled persons) and in the case of companion card holders - their companions. This free travel is restricted to journeys by megabus wholly in Scotland, and Scottish National Entitlement Cards aren’t valid outside Scotland.

We purchase insurance in accordance with our legal responsibility. All legal liabilities to third parties, which include damage to property and personal injury are covered. There’s no insurance cover provided for loss, damage or injury where the carrier providing your service hasn’t been negligent. Our maximum liability to you for any loss or damage to your luggage, on megabus services under any and all circumstances - is limited to £500 for all such loss or damage.

When you first register for an account with megabus, you’ll be sent a confirmation email featuring an authorisation code. Please click on the link in the email to validate your email address. This is an additional security feature to make sure that only genuine email addresses are used to register on our website.
